Course Summary
Algebra 1 is the first course taken by high school students and sets the foundation for all other high school math and science courses. Understanding and mastering the concepts taught in Algebra I is paramount for success in high school. The principles and skills taught in this course are later used in other subject areas such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Economics. Algebra 1 focuses on five fundamental areas of mathematics:
End of Course Exam (EOC) Successful completion of Algebra 1 is required for high school graduation. To earn credit, students must earn a passing grade AND successfully pass the Algebra 1 End-of-Course exam which is administered by the state of Florida in May. Class Expectations:
Discipline Policy: Our class follows the school-wide discipline policy. I expect students to be prompt, prepared, and ready to work when the bell rings. Most importantly, I expect students to grant their fellow classmates with an opportunity to learn; therefore, when I am teaching, I expect students to quietly pay attention and focus on the lesson at hand. Students who are disruptive will be removed from the classroom. Unless otherwise stated, cell phones must be turned off and put away during class. Students caught using their phones during class will have their phones confiscated and turned in to the front office. Supplies: Students are required to have a pencil, paper (lined and graph paper), a notebook, and a 12” straight edge ruler. There will be NO CALCULATORS allowed! Grading Policy: Students’ grades will be calculated as follows-- · Assessments (Tests and Quizzes)…………………. 85% · Daily Assignments/Homework…………………… 15% All math assignments (class work, homework, tests, and quizzes) must be done in neatly in pencil and properly headed to receive credit. If an assignment is sloppy, not properly headed, or not completed in pencil, it will be returned to the student ungraded, and the student will have until the end of the day to redo the assignment. Late Work: To receive full credit, all work must be submitted by the beginning of the period that it is due. Unless otherwise stated:
Make-Up Work: If a student is absent, it is his/her responsibility to ask the teacher for missing work. I will do my best to regularly post all assignments on my class website. Students will have 3 calendar days from the day they return to school to complete any missing assignments. |
